Daikin VRV IV-S Test Button Limitations “If in Doubt Weigh it Out”
Troubleshooting the Daikin VRV IV-S:
After using the test button on the outdoor control board and getting the “Happy” light, H3P, do not assume that means the system is working properly. Passing the self test has a very limited meaning.
The test is performed ONLY to see if system can physically operate.
It does not check for proper performance .
It does not check for proper superheat / subcool
The test literally just checks to make sure valves are open, no restrictions, communication is good, etc.
There is a much more involved and clunky process to finding error codes that may still be active, If you have a suspicion that the refrigerant charge is low, I suggest forgetting about using the built in diagnostic process and just go straight to weighing the charge out to verify whether low charge is an issue or not. I have found in general that even when an inverter system is supposed to indicate low charge through error codes it is unreliable to depend on this. “ If in doubt weigh it out” can save you hours of frustration and wasted time.
